Hello Friends of the Phoenix!

Two events coming up, not to miss: the Halloween Ball on Saturday October 27, and a marathon reading of Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" the following weekend, November 3 and 4.


The 5th Annual Spooky Chicken Halloween Ball
When: Saturday, October 27. 7:30 - Midnight
Where: The Phoenix Theater, corner of Keller and Washington Streets, downtown Petaluma
What: live music and dancing in the historic, haunted old Phoenix; food and drink (including a full bar), costume contest.
How: Tickets are $30 ($25 if bought in blocks of 10 or more). Buy them on-line at www.spookychicken.org (you will also find a form you can download, fill out, and postal mail with your check)
Why: the best public Halloween party north of the Golden Gate, to benefit the Phoenix Center, helping to keep our doors open and our music, art, health, and education programs running for the youth of the North Bay.

Note: if you, or some person or business you know, might want to sponsor this event for $250 or more (you'll get courtesy tickets and be named in literature and at the event), please contact Jane Hamilton at 778-1091.

Kerouac Weekend
When: Saturday & Sunday, November 3rd and 4th. 1PM to "Late" both days. Where: The Phoenix Theater, corner of Keller and Washington Streets, downtown PetalumaWhat:
  • Kick off on Saturday, 1:00 - 1:45, with a multi-media "Beat" presentation. Following that will be a marathon oral reading of Jack Kerouac's "On The Road", featuring St. Vincent's, Casa Grande, and Petaluma High Schools readers. Anyone is welcome to participate in the reading. Celebrity guest speakers and "Beat" commentators:
    • Jonah Raskin, Professor of Communications, Sonoma State University Gerry Nicosia, Author of "Memory Babe" Joanna McClure, poet and ex-wife of Michael McClure
    • other surprise guests
    Panel discussion Sunday afternoon 4:30-ish to 6PM Q & A following
  • Continuous free refreshments and coffee
How: Tickets are $8 adults, $4 students, at the door. Bring a copy of "On The Road" (if you have one) and your own coffee mug. For more information, contact Dave Murphy (707) 778-6397, dave.murphy1@comcast.net.
Why: join your community in celebrating the 50th anniversary of "On The Road", to benefit the Phoenix Center, helping to keep our doors open and our music, art, health, and education programs running for the youth of the North Bay.


The Phoenix earns 60% of its costs through weekly shows which are offered at an affordable price. To stay open daily, be a safe place for the 1500 teens a month who come through, to be the teen center that hosts a weekly free teen health clinic, a quarterly free dental clinic, music instruction, AA meetings, free tutoring, skateboarding, writers workshops, job mentoring and much more, we count on our community for support.
